Decent villas incl. a beautiful view apart the sun bed warriors and extra charges for beach sun beds and parasols
It’s happening again. Queuing up at 7:50 AM as the pool opens at 8 AM. From your lovely terrace with a beautiful view, you can see the this special kind of humans, sun bed warriors. Not embarrassed at all, sharp 8 AM, this species conquers the pool to reserve THEIR sun bed(s) and parasol(s). Once conquered, it is time to do the 2nd priority tasks. Hygiene, breakfast maybe a city trip to Dubrovnik, leaving the well reserved sun beds and parasol is unattended for hours. Our son, he is 5, was even asking why people would do that!?
Recommendation by the reception / service desk:
Put the towels of reserved sun beds aside! Well, I think that’s probably the right thing to do, but remember, we are talking about sun bed warriors. These species is fighting for their sun bed reservation freedom. We don’t want to promote escalation nor physical argumentation, so we should leave it to the pool team.
Here some recos which worked perfect in other hotels:
- Signs that make clear sun bed reservations are not tolerated.
- Collect towels that are placed for reserving sun bed. Even better, only use special towels, given out by the service team at the pool.
- Pool boys can actually work: let them give out the towels for the sun beds as well as parasols. When guests are going away, collect towels and parasols.
- Don‘t charge extra for sun beds and parasols at the beach. Hotel guests are required to pay 7€ per per sun bed and 6€ per parasol. I let you do the math, when 2 adults with their kid(s) are staying for 10 days. Guests are paying to stay with you and to enjoy the hotel pool and hotel beach. Guests from outside can of course be charged. But your own hotel guests? Try to make money with service. Such as placing QR-Codes for your food and beverage orders at the beach. (Smart, huh?)
- The villas, they are nice but obviously have their price, should minimum include sun beds, not?
- No idea how to identify/distinguish guests, guests from outside or guest staying at villas? How about a colored rubber bracelets? I know, it can be super easy.
- Last but not least… When building new facilities, increasing the beds to accommodate more guests, think about spots at pools and beach. Especially since you are promoting the pool and hotel own beach. But hey…. I forgot, the beach has to be paid extra! ;) and whoops, this area is a summer vacation place. What do we do in summer at the beach? ;-) I know… it is a tough guess…
@hotelmanagement: sun bed warriors downgrade hotels, their reputation and the entire experience. It is embarrassing!
Positives (+):
We stayed at the beach front view villa. View is amazing! Room size is ok for 3, max 4 people.
Reception staff is friendly, caring and tries to help within their range of possibilities. Kira was very good in deescalating when I addressed the sun bed warrior issue.
Room service was discrete and good. They also washed the dishes, which is definitely not their job, but the t was well noted. Maybe it was because of tipping in the beginning? ;)
Fridge works and was clean. Small kitchen with 2 stove plates offers everything for self service. Air con, shower, hot water, etc. works fine.
Most places are in walking distances.
Negatives (-):
Sun bed warriors at the pool.
Not sufficient parasols at the pool. Really bad when you travel with small kids.
Extra charges for sun beds and parasols at the beach. (The beach belongs to the 2 Maistra hotels and the Maistra villas that offer their guests a shared pool experience and area with insufficient sun beds)
Initial hotel, the Astarea, urgently requires a make over! It is definitely outdated compared to the Mlini Select Hotel and the Villas.
Wrapping it up…
It definitely offers room for improvement but still is worth a stay in the beach front villas. We had a good time during our stay, even thought the sun bed warriors frustrated us every single morning.
Had a great time at the Maistra Mlini Villas a couple of weeks ago. My wife and baby stayed here for a week and we were upgraded to a 1-bed villa upon arrival, after our flight was delayed, which was absolutely gorgeous!
We were met with such nice and generous staff, helped us with our luggage to room and even helped us entertain a 6 month old baby throughout our stay.
Although it is quite hilly, everywhere is very walkable, even with a baby in a buggy. Nice selection of places to eat nearby, the seafood is great.
Could not recommend this place highly enough, pictures don't do it justice.
Beautiful holiday. Our Villa was clean, stylish with an amazing view!
Excelllent service, attentive staff, good food and great value for your money.
Villas are close to small port where you can catch a Taxi boat to Cavtat or Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik airport is 20 minutes away.
We will definitely be back!!! 😊
We had the most amazing stay here in one of the one bedroom apartments with sea view and what a view it was, spectacular. The apartment was a decent size large enough for myself, my husband, and 19 year old son . It was very clean and had everything we needed. There was a lovely pool area but we didn't use it as the sea was right there to take a swim and snorkel. The slight downside was the charge for sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach, which were quite expensive at around 7 euros a bed and I think 6 or 8 euros a bed especially if you only want to sit for an hour or so the ones by the pool are free to use. Mlini itself is beautiful with everything within walking distance such as restaurants, bars, and shops . Would very much recommend these apartments and Mlini.
We love the location, right infront of the beach and the rooms are cleaned daily. We have spent 10nights here and loved our stay. We would definitely go back someday.
In the quieter end of Dubrovnik and need a taxi or get a bus to the old town, if you're going self catering the nearest shop is a good 20 min walk but we didn't mind that as the coastal walk is beautiful and just need to plan ahead. There's …
Decent size villa's with a nice view over de bay. Pool (not heated), beach and restaurant are all nearby. Includes hotelservice: clean the villas daily and supply clean towels. This year the inside pool is closed due to a mechanical …
Perfect experience, amazing location, super friendly staff. Looking forward to coming back next year!
